3rd Kashi Tamil Sangamam has been postponed in view of the Kumbh Mela
It has been announced that the Kashi Tamil Sangamam, which was to be held this year in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, will be held from January 19 to 28 next year.
Kashi Tamil Sangamam-3, which is currently scheduled to be held in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh in 2024, is scheduled to be held from January 19 to 28. Prayagraj’s Kumbh Mela is postponed to next year for Tamils to see.
‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam 2022’ was launched to highlight and strengthen the cultural connection of Tamils with Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. This month-long Tamil Sangam was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Lok Sabha constituency, Varanasi. The second Sangam was also held in Varanasi in November 2023 while the Telugu speaking Sangams were held in Gujarat and Saurashtra Sangams.
Now the third conclave, which was supposed to be held in 2024, has been postponed to next year. The annual Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj near Varanasi will be held from 19th to 28th this year. As usual, this Sangamam in Kashi is also organized by the Varanasi district administration in association with the Central Education Department.
The difficulties of the Tamils were brought to the attention of the Prime Minister as the last 2 Tamil Sangamams were held in November when it was extremely cold.
In this case, it has been decided to hold this year’s Kumbh Mela in January so that everyone can see it. A video conference on the full arrangements will be held on November 11. A source in the Union Ministry of Education said that some departments of the Central Government, including the Railways, are also willing to help.
The first Tamil Sangamam was held in the campus of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. The second Tamil Sangamam was held on the banks of the Ganga at Namo Ghat as per the idea of S. Rajalingam, District Collector of Varanasi. The Namo Ghat, newly built on the Ganges following the establishment of the Kashi Tamil Sangam, has developed into a tourist destination. And here, around five thousand people visit daily.
Therefore, as the third Sangamam is going to be held at Namo Ghat, Tamils from various parts of Tamil Nadu like Chennai, Madurai, Rameswaram are going to be brought to this Sangamam by special trains. Along with Varanasi, they will be taken to Ayodhya and Prayagraj.
Officials said that as Tamils are going to participate in this event in different categories like last year, the official notification will be released soon. After that IIT Chennai will select the Tamils for Sangamath in person and online.
When this Sangamam program was first launched, there were complaints that the BJP was doing it for political gain. The BJP did not win a single constituency in Tamil Nadu in the subsequent Lok Sabha elections. Due to this, Kashi Tamil Sangamam-3 is going to be held in January to refute the claim that ‘Kasi Tamil Sangamam’ will not be held anymore.
